Creative Strategies
I have always been drawn to symmetry and often find the outcome of my work is set into squares. The particular quality of this black ink square: the varying depth of the blackness, the finish of the dried ink on the paper, and its graphical nature, for me, made it reassuring to look at and I appreciated the inner peace it brought that allowed me to begin thinking more clearly.
This is one creative strategy that I have used to start the process of thinking. At the forefront of my mind has been the reminder that knowledge is the root of all creativity. It is not to say that you must commit all information to memory but that the pursuit of ideas is made much simpler when you feed your mind. A block is easily unblocked if you open a book or make a mark. It is simply recognising that a starting point is just that.
