Short Walks In An Ideal Mediterranean Forest
Short Walks In An Ideal Mediterranean Forest
Short Walks In An Ideal Mediterranean Forest (2022) is a painting and audio installation that portrays a reflective journey exploring personal and ecological loss.
Through collaborative therapeutic acts of walking, conversation, and painting, my partner, Juana Flores Vegas, and I share events that followed a time spent at the Joya Arte + Ecologia artist residency in Andalucia, Spain.
The work documents the beginning of our journey coming to terms with cancer diagnoses, supporting each other, and aims to empower others through open conversation and building awareness.
It also reflects on the effects of climate change, species extinction, land abandonment and modern agriculture on the environment, connecting climate grief with personal bereavement through a sense of anticipated loss.
